Mindfulness Eating

Here are tips and ideas on the art of mindfulness eating and how you can incorporate and practice this into your every day life.

Eating mindfully is all about being present in the moment when eating. It's all about narrowing your focus on the actual food you are consuming and the overall atmosphere of your dining experience.

At first, try incorporating a couple of these tips below just to get you started. They are in no particular order.

  • keeps you focused in the present moment
  • mind stress relief
  • breathing slower, deeper
  • healthier digestion
  • weight loss
  • healthier hormones
  • focusing on the senses of taste, texture and sound rather than sight and speech
  • you won't eat as much because you won't need as much

25 Mindfulness Eating Tips

  1. am I hungry or am I thirsty?
  2. know your own hunger signals
  3. eat at set times
  4. eat at set places
  5. just eat, do nothing else. No TV or cellphone
  6. slow down
  7. chew your food until it's liquid
  8. eat alone to stay focused and relaxed
  9. eat with others keeping any conversation light and positive
  10. eat in silence whether you are on your own or with other people
  11. know what you are eating
  12. eat foods that are nutritional
  13. know where your food come from
  14. bless your food, mind and body
  15. breathe
  16. smaller portions
  17. don't eat from packages, especially straight from the package
  18. eat with your non-dominant hand
  19. use chopsticks instead of a knife or fork
  20. focus on taste and texture
  21. close your eyes when eating
  22. put your cutlery down when chewing
  23. at least 50% of food on your plate or bowl should be vegetables
  24. sit down to eat, preferably at a table
